At the conclusion of your ascent of Mount Rinjani, near Senaru Village, you will discover a series of natural waterfalls. Following your trek up Mount Rinjani, a visit to the Sindang Gila and Tiu Kelep waterfalls is highly recommended. These two waterfalls are situated in Senaru Village, within the Mount Rinjani National Park area.

The second waterfall is located adjacent to the first. Daily, especially on weekends, many tourists visit these attractions. From the ticket counter, visitors must descend hundreds of stairs on foot to reach Sindang Gila Waterfall.

The name ‘Sindang Gila’ originates from a local legend where ‘gila,’ meaning crazy in the local language, refers to a lion that caused chaos in the villages. The villagers chased the lion into the forest, where they discovered the waterfall. At first glance, the waterfall appears to be two-tiered. However, upon closer inspection, the water does not plunge directly down but is momentarily caught on an indented cliff, forming a temporary pool.

Tourists often immerse themselves in the water, feeling the fresh spray from the waterfall, which originates from Lake Segara Anak on Mount Rinjani. Not far from Sindang Gila is another stunning Senaru waterfall, Tiu Kelep.

The journey to the waterfall is approximately a 40-minute walk from Sindang Gila Waterfall. Tourists must descend stairs, follow the trail along the irrigation flow, cross the rocky river, and then proceed along the footpath flanked by leafy trees.

Compared to Sindang Gila, Tiu Kelep Waterfall is more impressive with its larger and more powerful cascade. Local myths suggest that the waters near Tiu Kelep have rejuvenating properties, potentially making one a year younger. After enjoying the beauty of both waterfalls at the base of Mount Rinjani, tourists can embark on a more thrilling adventure.

Beside the bridge lies an irrigation tunnel. The challenge involves navigating down the tunnel with a strong water flow that can push one’s body if not careful. For those seeking further excitement, they can traverse the tunnel in the opposite direction, going against the current.
